NEW HAVEN, Conn. (May. 17, 2014) — Returning to the school from which he graduated 60 years ago, Cesar Pelli delivered the convocation address at the University of Illinois School of Architecture. The school annually selects an alumnus who has made significant contributions to the field of architecture to give the keynote address. Pelli came to Urbana-Champaign in 1952 with a scholarship from Institute of International Education to study at the School of Architecture. He graduated in 1954 with a Master of Science in Architecture.

Pelli returned to the campus in recent years when the firm designed the Business Instructional Facility, completed in 2009 for the College of Business. This is also the not the only time he has been honored by the university. In 1996, the University of Illinois Alumni Association conferred on him its prestigious University of Illinois Alumni Achievement Award. In addition, last year the Metro New York Illini Club honored him with the Big Apple Illini of the Year Award.
