PCPA judges design competition in Monterrey

MONTERREY, Mexico (March 6, 2012) — Members of the design team for Arboleda, an urban village master planned by Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects for One Development Group in Monterrey, recently helped select winners in a competition in which young architects’ designs will become part of the development.

Gregg Jones, AIA, principal, and Peter Follett, AIA, RIBA, senior associate, were on the design jury for “Conectando Arboleda” (Connecting the Grove), which invited proposals for small projects on the site. Sponsored by One Development Group and the National Academy Architecture, Monterrey Chapter, to give young architects the opportunity to work with internationally recognized firms, the competition was open to architects under 40.

The top prize was awarded for the design of a café/bistro and an events pavilion by the team of Luis Enrique Santiago Bernal, Salinas Andrés Nevárez and Jeanette Cantu. A special prize was awarded to the team of Ana Lucía Aguiree, Alejandra Castillo García, and Diego Rivera. The winners will work with the developers to realize the projects.

Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects designed the master plan for Arboleda, which will include residential and commercial buildings on a 26-acre site next in the foothills of the Sierra Madre Mountains, next to the Campestre Golf Club.
