Petronas Tower 3 makes top 20 list of tall buildings for 2012

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (Jan. 16, 2013) — The world’s arbiter of tall buildings has released its list of tallest buildings completed in 2012 and the newest tower in Kuala Lumpur by Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects is in the top 20.

Petronas Tower 3 is #18 on the list compiled by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat, the organization that sets the criteria for determining the world’s tallest building. The 60-story mixed-use tower stands 267 meters (875 square feet) tall in Kuala Lumpur City Centre, the same development as the original Petronas Towers. The twin towers designed by Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects were the world’s tallest buildings from 1997 to 2004. The location of Petronas 3 in Malaysia also reflects a trend in 2012’s tall buildings: the majority are in Asia.
