Senior associate lectures at conference in Mexico

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (Oct. 3, 2014) — PCPA Senior Associate Celia Toche recently delivered a lecture at an international academic conference in Querétaro, Mexico.

Toche’s lecture, “In the Balance,” was part of the 7th International Congress of Architecture ELEMENT at ITESM School of Architecture in September. The element of the conference title refers to a single aspect of architecture that was considered by all presenters. This year’s theme was contemporary expression of local identities.

Toche explored variations of the conference topic by tracing the development of the architectural expression of several of the firm’s projects. Using Adrienne Arshst Center for the Performing Arts in Miami, for example, she discussed how local identity can be formed in the absence of context. Her talk also touched upon concepts such as architectural expression and regional landmarks with examples including the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and Torre Iberdrola in Bilbao, Spain. Following the lecture, she also participated in a seminar discussion on icons and iconography.

Toche, who was involved in the Miami project for 10 years, has been a senior designer, project manager, and in-house LEED consultant for several of the firm’s major works.
