NEW HAVEN, Conn. (April 26, 2011) – Mark Shoemaker, principal of Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects, recently presented the firm’s work to a conference of museum directors in St. Petersburg. Mr. Shoemaker was invited by the National Children’s Museum, for which Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects is designing a new home in National Harbor, Maryland. The conference, which took place at St. Michael’s Castle, was organized by the Russian Museum with support from the Fund for Arts and Culture in Central and Eastern Europe.

Mr. Shoemaker’s presentation focused on accessibility in the firm’s work. He was the principal in charge for the North Terminal of Reagan National Airport, which was cited for the 2003 Barrier-Free America Award from the Paralyzed Veterans of America for its accessible design. He is currently leading design teams for several projects, including the Transbay Transit Center. This multi-modal transportation hub – the first new high-speed rail station in the United States – is being designed with technologically advanced wayfinding systems, among other features that will be usable by transit riders and visitors of all abilities.

Mr. Shoemaker joined Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects in 1981 and has led several of the firm’s transportation, commercial, and healthcare and research projects.
