39,000 square feet / 4,000 square meters
The Docklands Light Railway Station is the gateway to Canary Wharf, one of the world’s largest private developments and the center of London’s financial and media industries. One of Britain’s earliest and fastest growing light rail lines, the Docklands system was established in conjunction with the redevelopment the East London area that includes Canary Wharf. Six platforms serve three rail lines for the massive business district.
With a vaulted roof of glass and steel, the station is a modern reinterpretation of London’s great 19th century vaulted railroad stations. The station is connected to a shopping complex and to One Canada Square and adjacent buildings via concourses containing more than 200 shops, bars, and restaurants. The station also connects with the Jubilee Line of the London Underground and with local bus service.
