Alexander Court Wins Wood Award

Alexander Court has received a Citation Award from the 2019 Wood Design & Building Awards program hosted by Wood Design & Building Magazine. An office development in the heart of Washington D.C.’s Central Business District, this new reconfiguration of two existing office buildings provides new public space for tenants, including a twelve story glass atrium.

The Wood Design & Building Awards pay homage to design teams that embrace wood architecture as a solution to the many challenges faced from environmental to urban densification. The awards program also celebrates the omnipresence of wood in architecture throughout the world.

For the design of Alexander Court, Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects incorporated wood not only for acoustic and solar properties, but also for its aesthetic quality. Juxtaposed to the adjacent materials of stones, steel and glass, the Anegre veneer provides an inviting warmth to the interior.

For almost forty years the Wood Design & Building Awards program has recognized and celebrated architecture around the world that demonstrates excellence in wood architecture. Award winners are a diverse group of architects, engineers, and creators that embody a range of innovative, design ideas.
