Nihonbashi Muromachi Mitsui Tower Wins Prestigious ULI Award

The Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects-designed Nihonbashi Muromachi Mitsui Tower has received the 2020 Urban Land Institute Asia Pacific Excellence Award. The Tokyo project is recognized for its comprehensive level of quality and forward-looking approach to development and design.

This prestigious award recognizes the full development process of a project, not only its architecture and design. Winning projects must demonstrate best practices in land use that continue to advance the industry while putting people first. Projects are also evaluated on financial success, high standard of excellence across disciplines, relevance to contemporary and future needs of the community, environmental sustainability, and strategies to replicate in other communities.

The international jury represents multidisciplinary experts in real estate, finance, planning, development, design, and other professional services. The esteemed jury commended the Nihonbashi Muromachi Mitsui Tower for its timeless and harmonious architectural qualities and for being “built to premium standards of any building in the world, with the highest grade of technologies and finishes.” The tower impressed the jury particularly for its integration into a key part of a long-term master plan to reinvent the neighborhood into a “modern, smart, and resilient district”.

The Urban Land Institute provides international leadership in the responsible use of land in creating thriving communities. The development community recognizes this non-profit education and research institute a leading authority on innovative land use.
