Pell Clarke Pelli Architects’ Porta Nuova project received a Best Urban Regeneration Award. This mixed-use development is north of the historic city center of Milan, Italy and redevelops an area of abandoned railyards adjacent to the Garibaldi train station, creating a new and grand gateway to the city. One of the largest redevelopment projects in Milan, it includes residential, office, retail, parking, and hotel components with a strong focus on pedestrian activity at the base of the buildings. Porta Nuova includes a new public space, Piazza Gae Aulenti, which extends to the Corso Como, a well-known pedestrian street of fashion shops and restaurants.
The Best Urban Regeneration Award was given during the 2018
MIPIM Awards in Cannes, France.
