Mariko Masuoka, FAIA, LEED AP


Mariko Masuoka joined the firm in 1980. She has been the design principal-in-charge for academic projects, large-scale civic projects, commercial mixed-use developments, and master plans.

She is currently leading the design team for 76 Trinity, which includes a podium for the historic New York church’s offices and programs and an office tower, as well as a new interdisciplinary research building for The Ohio State University. 

Ms. Masuoka’s academic projects include the Vogelstein Center for Drama and Film, a classroom and performing arts center at Vassar College that incorporates the original theater building’s historic façade, the Mathematics Building and Lecture Hall at the Institute for Advanced Study, Yale-NUS College campus in Singapore, the Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering and Chemistry Building at The Ohio State University, Yale Science Building and Malone Engineering Center at Yale University, Yale’s first LEED Gold building.

She has led design teams for the Connecticut Science Center, a LEED Gold riverfront science museum in Hartford; the Theodore Roosevelt U.S. Courthouse, a 23-courtroom complex in Brooklyn, New York; City Lights at Queens Landing, a 42-story residential tower in Long Island City, New York; and Century Tower, an office building in New Haven, Connecticut.

Ms. Masuoka has also directed teams for several master planning projects, including Jingui Li, a large-scale mixed-used development in Wuxi, China for which Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects is also designing several buildings; Heron Quay at Canary Wharf in London; Fan Pier in Boston; and Playa Vista in Los Angeles. In addition, she was the landscape designer for projects at the University of Hartford, World Financial Center, and the Cleveland Clinic.

Ms. Masuoka received a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Architecture from Yale University.
