467,000 square feet /43,385 square meters
Part of a 1.6 million-square-foot mixed use development in Hudson Yards, and adjacent to the future Hudson Boulevard Park, 551 West 38th Street is a 51-story residential tower that will rise across from the Javits Center in New York City. Phase two of the master plan will consist of a 1.2 million-square-foot office tower that is currently in the early stage of design.
Approximately 400,000 square feet will be residential use, with roughly 16,000 square feet of amenities, including a fitness center on the 30th floor, a roof deck with views up and down the Hudson River, a game room, golf simulator, and squash deck. The ground level will have approximately 2000 square feet of retail. The project consists of 598 rental units.
The western residential tower’s form is shaped by exploring a massing that enhances a variety of residential units, while allowing views west from the commercial building. The building was designed to appear as if it has two towers, like a trunk of a tree that has been split. The taller portion is 570 feet while the shorter is 330 feet. Different glass and metal facades will be used to wrap the sides of the building to give it additional texture. The metal wall panels are a deep blue against a silver high-performing, semi- reflective glass. The form also has tapered corners which enhance the illusion.
