Block 185 is a celebration of Austin’s legendary free spirit

Austin, TX, USA
The tower announces its presence through a unique, curved composition that emulates a sail. When viewed from an eastern-western point, the curve can be seen extending upward beyond the tower’s top for a slick, pointed expression.

Block 185 will stretch thirty-five stories into the Texas sky, a striking new gateway to downtown Austin. At Lady Bird Lake and Shoal Creek, the tower celebrates the outdoors with landscaped terraces at every level that evoke connection with the neighboring Central Library.  The ground floor will be a bustling home for eclectic dining and retail, with an open lobby that offers easy access to the popular Second Street shopping and entertainment district. The future home of Google's Austin office, the new tower will also attract top talent in the region.

20%
amenity space throughout the tower

Unique zoning requirements yield imaginative solutions

With a sweeping sail-like curve, the tower’s tapering form responds to challenging zoning requirements and neighboring bodies of water — Shoal Creek to the west and the Colorado River to the south. Outdoor terraces at each level give a subtle impression of a sail billowing in the wind. Each floor offers unrestricted 180-degree views with abundant natural light and solar-shaded glass to prevent bird collisions.

A future-proof design allows the above-grade parking levels to transform into additional office square footage when needed.

“Block 185 reflects Austin’s unconventional character and puts forth the values of this extraordinary city, particularly with respect to the open public-space environment.” — William E. Butler, AIA, LEED AP

An incubator for creativity and innovation

Reflecting Google’s iconic culture, the interior will be a vibrant amenity-focused environment with hospitality-style ceiling heights, landscaped terraces at every level, cafes and dining, a fitness and wellness center, and quirky local art. The tower’s entrance is just steps away from the popular bike and walking trail on Shoal Creek, with the Colorado River just across the street.

The tower's design highlights Austin's vibrant urban outdoors.

Five amenity floors and terraces at every level offer plenty of places to relax, enjoy the outdoors, and connect.

Construction is underway and set to finish in 2022.
