Salesforce Tower Celebrates its Grand Opening

On May 22, 2018, Salesforce Tower will be celebrating its grand opening. The 1,070-feet-tall, 60-story office tower is the tallest building in San Francisco, adding a sophisticated and dynamic addition to the skyline. In celebration of the grand opening of the tower, a light installation by celebrated artist Jim Campbell will be projected on the 150-foot crown. The light show features 11,000 LED lights will feature daily photos of city life, emphasizing the pride of the San Francisco community.

The tower takes the timeless form of the obelisk and has a slender, tapering silhouette. The walls are composed of clear glass with pearlescent white, metal accents. These horizontal and vertical accents gradually taper in depth to accentuate the curved glass corners. The walls rise past the top floor to form a transparent crown that appears to dissolve into the sky.

The tower connects directly to the Salesforce Transit Center—the new multi-modal transportation hub also designed by Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects—via a 5.4-acre rooftop park via a sky bridge at the fifth floor, bringing access to its 10,000 employees. Together, the tower and the transit center form the new heart of a revitalized neighborhood. The Salesforce Tower and Salesforce Transit Center are not only models for urban growth in San Francisco and the Bay Area, but also a built vision for the future of urban development in the U.S.

“The Salesforce Tower and Salesforce Transit Center are powerful individual buildings designed with a common civic purpose: to create the 21st-century gateway to San Francisco and a state-of-the-art place marker on its skyline,” said Senior Design Principal Fred Clarke. “Embodying sustainable, transit-based development, the tower combined with the transit center are a model for the future of our cities.” Salesforce Tower has been pre-certified as LEED Platinum.
