Craig Copeland featured on CBS Saturday Morning
Partner Craig Copeland was featured on CBS Saturday Morning News on May 4, 2024. Craig, a sculptor and artist himself, shared his thoughts about new technology in architectural stone carving.
“The capabilities of working with stone today would allow us to make something that’s even more expressive... more flowing,” says Craig Copeland.
Craig has incorporated stone on many Pelli Clarke & Partners projects, including most recently 2100 Pennsylvania, The Centrale, and 1214 Fifth Avenue.
Craig worked on the reconstruction of Brookfield Place, formerly the World Financial Center, which was damaged in the September 11th attacks. The stone of the grand stairs in the Wintergarden were designed to create a monumental entrance into a public space, inspired by the Spanish Steps in Rome. A sculptor and furniture designer for nearly two decades, Craig was recently awarded the Mastro D'Arte Della Pietra (Master of Stone Art) by the Stone Master Committee, at the 2022 Marmomac Stone Trade Show in Italy. He has also been involved in the Architectural Ceramic Assemblies Workshop (ACAW) and Architect’s Newspaper’s Facades+ conference.
