JEN Hotel: a vibrant oasis of wellness and respite in Shenzhen’s innovation hub

Shenzhen, China

The JEN Shenzhen Qianhai Hotel is a restorative retreat in the rapidly developing innovation hub of Shenzhen. Designed as a social center for the larger development, the 100-meter Shangri-La boutique hotel acts as a “living room” for the larger Qianhai Bay development. Highlighting this special role within the development, the façade has a rich and vibrant character experienced from both the interior and exterior, featuring folded glass panels, transparent wood screens, and warm stone-texture terracotta for the podium and stone texture aluminum for the tower.

Upon crossing the hotel’s entrance, visitors will find themselves surrounded by wood, stone, and plants in the lobby that promote a sense of calm amid the surrounding bustling metropolis.

Wellness-centric design

With a focus on supporting well-being, the tower's podium serves as a multifaceted wellness hub, featuring a state-of-the-art gym and health club. A 900-square-meter banquet hall, flanked by meeting rooms accommodates both business and social gatherings. The space is enriched with an array of amenities, including retail shops, diverse dining options, a brewery, a lush rooftop garden, and the convenience of both indoor and outdoor pools. The design intentionally weaves together these diverse functions, promoting user interaction and ensuring adaptability to a variety of programming needs.

A balance of social space and tower efficiency

The proportions of the individual rooms favor extensive views and natural daylight. In response to the shifting needs and desires of a modern client group, the hotel conserves space in the individual rooms in exchange for a variety of special features focused toward social gatherings with ample opportunities for impromptu happenings. The tower’s façade employs a similar approach and material palette as the podium to further the sense of warmth and welcome. Double-height exterior modules create a sense of variety and emphasize the verticality of the tower.
