Boston’s South Station Tower Receives a 2026 CVU Award of Excellence

26 May 2026

The Council on Vertical Urbanism (CVU) has named South Station Tower one of six Award of Excellence recipients in its Best Tall Building by Region (Americas) category. Announced on May 26, the award recognizes completed towers that advance sustainable design and improve the quality of life for people in the cities they serve.

Designed by Pelli Clarke & Partners for Hines, the 51-story office and residential tower rises above the tracks behind South Station’s 1899 headhouse. At its base, ten concrete arches support the tower and frame the Great Space, a light-filled public concourse. The redevelopment connects the rail platforms directly to the expanded bus terminal, giving passengers a shorter, sheltered route between the two.

On October 27, Partner Graham Banks will join Hines to present South Station Tower to the awards jury at the 2026 VU Summit in London, where the project will compete for the title of Best Tall Building Worldwide.
